New Accreditation for MCPD and Glycidol Analysis
The Centro Analisi CAIM laboratory has obtained accreditation in accordance with UNI EN ISO 18363-2:2025 (GC-MS) for the determination, in animal and vegetable oils and fats, of the following process contaminants:
- 2-MCPD esters
- 3-MCPD esters
- Glycidyl esters
This achievement strengthens the laboratory’s analytical reliability and expands its technical support to food sector companies engaged in quality control and regulatory compliance.
Accredited Analysis of 2-MCPD, 3-MCPD and Glycidyl Esters (UNI EN ISO 18363-2:2025)
The UNI EN ISO 18363-2:2025 standard describes a GC-MS (Gas Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry) based method for the determination of MCPD and glycidyl esters in oils and fats.
MCPD esters (3-monochloropropanediol and 2-monochloropropanediol) and glycidyl esters are process contaminants that may form during the refining of vegetable oils, particularly at high-temperature stages.
Monitoring these contaminants is essential to:
- verify compliance with European regulatory limits;
- ensure the safety of raw materials and finished products;
- manage risk throughout the supply chain;
- protect brand reputation and prevent non-compliance.
Accreditation according to ISO 18363-2 ensures the application of an internationally recognized method with high standards of accuracy, repeatability, and metrological traceability.
Scope of Application: Animal and Vegetable Oils and Fats
The accredited tests apply to:
- refined vegetable oils;
- crude oils intended for refining;
- animal fats;
- lipid ingredients used in processed products.
The service is particularly relevant for:
- oil refiners and producers;
- food companies using oils and fats as ingredients;
- baby food and bakery sector operators;
- importers and distributors.
How Can We Support You?
Our laboratory performs analysis of 2-MCPD, 3-MCPD and glycidol in oils and fats, including those extracted from food products.
Analyses are carried out using:
- GC-MS technology, ensuring high sensitivity even at low concentration levels;
- the official UNI EN ISO 18363-2:2025 method, aligned with the limits set by EU Regulation 2023/915.
Through these technologies, CAIM supports companies in:
- verifying regulatory compliance;
- managing risk;
- quality control;
- safeguarding safety across the entire supply chain.
